Leaders of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) HQ Office of Academic Engagement (OAE) visited the University of Iowa campus to gain an Iowa perspective on national security-related topics.  

NASA has selected the research proposal of Xuan Song, a University of Iowa assistant professor of industrial and systems engineering, among four Iowa projects to receive NASA EPSCoR funding. Song’s team will collaborate with scientists at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center to develop novel additive manufacturing (or 3D printing) approaches to fabricate complex ceramic components with high strength and extreme heat resistance.

Kristan Worthington, assistant professor in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering and faculty affiliate in the Iowa Technology Institute, is among 84 early career engineers selected to present at the Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering Symposium in September 2022. She will join other groundbreaking engineers from industry, academia, and government at the event hosted by Amazon.

The organizing committee for the 7th International Digital Human Modeling Symposium (DHM 2022) has released a tentative program featuring more than 50 papers. The event is being hosted by the Iowa Technology Institute.

Jun Wang, assistant director of the Iowa Technology Institute, was named the principal investigator for two NASA grants worth $1.56 million. NASA’s TEMPO mission, set to launch this year, is intended to revolutionize air quality forecasting. TEMPO, which stands for Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring Pollution, is a space-based ultraviolet and visible spectrometer scheduled to be launched into space aboard a commercial satellite — after nearly ten years of planning — before the year is over.

University of Iowa researchers specializing in atmospheric sciences were selected to aid NASA’s TEMPO mission that’s set to launch this year. TEMPO (Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring Pollution) is intended to revolutionize air quality forecasting. 

University of Iowa Prof. Yong Chen has co-authored a book examining data analytics methodologies for the diagnosis and prognosis of industrial systems under a unified random effects model.

Jun Wang, professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and James E. Ashton Professor in Engineering, has been awarded $1.55 million to improve regional air quality monitoring from space.
