Jesse E. Bell, a professor at the Department of  Environmental, Agricultural, and Occupational Health at University of Nebraska is scheduled as the featured speaker of the Climate / Atmospheric Science & Engineering (CASE) Colloquium speaker series on May 27. The presentation is titled “Water, Climate and Health Program."

Michael Schnieders is associate professor in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering and the Department of Biochemistry in the Carver College of Medicine, as well as a faculty affiliate with the Iowa Technology Institute. Schnieders is a leader in using physics-based simulation and modeling to understand protein structure, work that has important applications in areas such as genetics, drug design, and disease diagnostics.

Zeyuan Ru, a University of Iowa Technology Institute graduate research assistant, has been recognized by the AGU Atmospheric Sciences Section. Ru works with Prof. Jun Wang and is a graduate student at the College of Engineering.

Dr. Xi Chen, working with Prof. Joe Gomes and Prof. Jun Wang, published their collaborative work presenting a new, machine-learning based, approach to predict light scattering properties of non-spherical dust particles. The approach will have wide applications in satellite remote sensing and climate model predictions. Chen, Gomes, and Wang are affiliated with the University of Iowa Technology Institute.

Xuan Song, an assistant professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Iowa, is among 22 recipients of the 2022 Sandra L. Bouckley Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

Xuan Song, an assistant professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Iowa, is among 22 recipients of the 2022 Sandra L. Bouckley Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers from Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). Song, whose work focuses on innovations in 3D printing, is also a faculty researcher at the Iowa Technology Institute, a research arm of the UI College of Engineering.

James Ankrum, a University of Iowa biomedical engineering professor, will bring his expertise in cell biology to a world-renowned research lab in Dublin.

Madison Kemerling, an undergraduate research assistant working with Prof. Ananya Sen Gupta, received a certificate of distinction during National Student Employee Week.

Prof. Keri Hornbuckle, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Iowa, spoke at the Climate / Atmospheric Science & Engineering (CASE) Colloquium series. The topic was “The impact of coordinated sampling, analytical, and data management methods with identification and remediation of legacy and modern sources of airborne PCBs.”

New innovations in 3D printing have seen the use of light-based 3D printing for use in biology and medicine. Kristan Worthington, an assistant professor in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa, has recently been awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER grant to continue her work in this emerging area.
