In November 2020, Stephen Baek, assistant professor of industrial and systems engineering, and H.S. Udaykumar, a professor of mechanical engineering and interim associate dean for research and graduate programs, both at the University of Iowa, received the 2020 Defense Innovation Award from TechConnect. Udaykumar and Baek received the award for their presentation “MaterIQ: An AI-based software tool for materials-by-design” at the Defense TechConnect Summit.

OPL was recently honored for the latest efforts in this long line of work. It was among two recent awards for OPL, which is part of the College of Engineering's University of Iowa Technology Institute. 

University of Iowa Technology Institute (ITI) researchers were recognized by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as being among the nation’s best for their "exceptional approach to solving a public health problem.”

Two University of Iowa Technology Institute faculty affiliates are among eight faculty members from the College of Engineering (COE) to receive named professorships and chairs, which are among the highest university honors faculty members can receive.

Mingyu Cai won a Graduate College Post-Comprehensive Research Fellowship for the Fall 2020 semester.
