Mathews Jacob is professor of electrical and computer engineering, a researcher in the Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging, and a member of the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. He directs the Computational Biomedical Imaging Group (CBIG). CBIG is funded by the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and Office of Naval Research.

Professor Jacob completed a BSE in electrical and communication engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, India. He also received an MS in signal processing from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and a PhD in biomedical imaging from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. He was a Beckman postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign between 2003 and 2006. Professor Jacob was the recipient of the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation in 2009 and the Research Scholar Award from the American Cancer Society in 2011. He is currently the associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging and IEEE Transactions on Computational Imaging.
