Gary Christensen, an ITI faculty affiliate, is among three UI faculty who have been named members of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows.

The U.S. Air Force has promoted a University of Iowa Technology Institute (ITI) graduate research assistant to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, an accomplishment recognized in a ceremony at ITI’s Operator Performance Lab (OPL) in December. 

The Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa (APAI) has honored Hosin “David” Lee, a University of Iowa Technology Institute faculty affiliate, with the Innovation in Construction Award for his contributions to the successful construction of high reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) mixes with rejuvenators.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has awarded a 2021-22 American Fellowship to University of Iowa student Mallory Tollefson, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in Computational Biophysics and is an Iowa Technology Institute research assistant under the direction of Michael J. Schnieders, associate professor of biomedical engineering and biochemistry.

Meng Zhou, a fourth-year PhD student conducting research at the University of Iowa Technology Institute (ITI), has been awarded a NASA research fellowship to study air quality at night. 

A University of Iowa PhD candidate working as a research assistant at the Iowa Technology Institute has been selected for the National Defense Science and Engineering (NDSEG) Fellowship Program. Bernice Kubicek was awarded this fellowship to continue work born out of her time with the Ananya Sen Gupta Research Group. She has conducted research on sonar autonomous target recognition through the development of feature extraction algorithms that aim to improve the classification and recognition of objects deep underwater.

A University of Iowa Technology Institute graduate research assistant has earned another award while working to make magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) processes quicker and more effective.

Joe Gomes, a University of Iowa assistant professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and an Iowa Technology Institute faculty affiliate, is a co-principal investigator on a team awarded a Jumpstarting Tomorrow Initiative grant to start a quantum simulation (QSim) program. 

Marisol Contreras, a PhD candidate in chemical engineering at the University of Iowa and a graduate research assistant in the Syed Mubeen Research Group at the University of Iowa Technology Institute, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research grant in Chemical Engineering to Germany for 2021-22

Qing Zou, University of Iowa PhD candidate and an Iowa Technology Institute researcher, placed first for the Best Paper Award at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers-International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (IEEE-ISBI) 2021 on April 16.
