David Wilder was a professor in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, and the University of Iowa Honors Program. He retired in 2022.

Wilder is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Biomechanics, the Orthopaedic Research Society, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine. Professor Wilder is also a Certified Professional Ergonomist and Professional Engineer in Iowa and Vermont. His research interests include whole-body vibration, spinal biomechanics, and injury prevention.
