Fatima Toor, the Lowell G. Battershell Endowed Chair in Laser Engineering and University of Iowa associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, and colleague John Prineas, UI professor of physics and astronomy, have been named Iowa Innovator of Year by the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (Iowa JPEC).

Kristan Worthington, assistant professor in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering and faculty affiliate in the Iowa Technology Institute, is among 84 early career engineers selected to present at the Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering Symposium in September 2022. She will join other groundbreaking engineers from industry, academia, and government at the event hosted by Amazon.

Schnieders among five to receive Iowa Mid-Career Faculty Scholar Awards

Michael Schnieders is associate professor in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering and the Department of Biochemistry in the Carver College of Medicine, as well as a faculty affiliate with the Iowa Technology Institute. Schnieders is a leader in using physics-based simulation and modeling to understand protein structure, work that has important applications in areas such as genetics, drug design, and disease diagnostics.

UI professor expanding 3D printing named among nation’s outstanding young manufacturing engineers

Xuan Song, an assistant professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Iowa, is among 22 recipients of the 2022 Sandra L. Bouckley Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers from Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). Song, whose work focuses on innovations in 3D printing, is also a faculty researcher at the Iowa Technology Institute, a research arm of the UI College of Engineering.
