The Iowa Board of Regents has selected six outstanding University of Iowa faculty members, including Jun Wang of the College of Engineering, to be honored for their extraordinary contributions and sustained record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

James Ankrum was among four faculty members selected for the award provides funding and development opportunities for outstanding tenured associate professors who have established national or international reputations in their disciplines and are exceptional teachers in and out of the classroom.

Hosin “David” Lee, a University of Iowa professor of civil and environmental engineering, was honored with the outstanding contribution award at the annual meeting of the Korean Transportation Association in America.

CBE professor Jun Wang is an investigator on NASA’s TEMPO, which Time Magazine has named one of its best inventions of 2023. The space instrument is expected to help scientists understand the sources of pollution by revolutionizing how real-time air quality data is collected.

Recent BME graduate Bhavya Vats received the Academic & Scholarly Achievement Award at the 2023 International Student Graduation Celebration. Vats has demonstrated a keen interest in research, working in three different labs, including the Ankrum Lab.

Xuan Song was recognized for scholarly activities, accomplishments, and significant contributions to teaching, research, and service that are remarkable for someone early in their academic career.

Professor Michael Schnieders received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Service.

Professor Allan Guymon received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Research.

Ed Sander, University of Iowa associate professor of biomedical engineering and director of graduate studies, has received the Robert and Virginia Wheeler Faculty Fellowship in Engineering.

Hosin “David” Lee, a University of Iowa professor of civil and environmental engineering, received the outstanding overseas alumnus award from the Seoul National University, a national public research university based in Seoul, South Korea.
