Ryan Horne is a graduate research assistant in the Guymon Research Group. He is currently studying medicine and chemical engineering in a dual degree (MD/PhD) program, and is in the PhD phase of his training. Horne's present research interests lie in preventing bacterial infection of medical devices, ophthalmologic biomaterials, and creating simple elegant solutions to replace unwieldy and complicated ones. His current project is researching films that prevent undesirable compounds (like bacteria and in some cases cells and proteins) from adhering to medical devices.
Horne received a BS and an MS in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University. At BYU his research was focused on the delivery of eye medication from silicone hydrogel contact lenses.
