KK Choi can settle into retirement knowing he made a long-lasting impact on students, colleagues, the field of mechanical engineering, and the University of Iowa.

Kyung K. Choi, better known as KK, has served UI for more than four decades and has been instrumental to the legacy of the Center for Computer-Aided Design (CCAD), which last year was renamed University of Iowa Technology Institute. 

Choi was part of the founding leadership team when the CCAD formed in the early 1980s, originally serving as associate director with Edward J. Haug as director. Choi became the director of CCAD in 1996 when CCAD and the National Advanced Driving Simulator split into separate entities. 

Choi was the Roy J. Carver Professor of Mechanical Engineering and a professor of applied mathematical and computational sciences before retiring earlier this year.

Choi has made an indelible impact on the College of Engineering, from teaching first-year students just beginning to learn about their major to seniors finishing their degrees to pursue a fantastic future in the field. Choi says his students and colleagues at the University of Iowa will never be far from his thoughts. He says his connections and the powerful bond he feels to this university have been an important part of his life.
