What brought you to the Iowa Technology Institute?

I began working with Dr. Wang on his atmospheric sensor project. My responsibilities included getting some of the sensors ready to launch and learning Python to analyze the data that the sensors produced. That experience prepared me for the work I do now, which involves filtering and analyzing satellite and model data using Python. Specifically, I help create graphs for visualization and use common statistical techniques.

What do you work on and what do you enjoy most about your work? 

I just finished a virtual summer internship with the Navy Research Labs in Monterey, California. We used the Navy Aerosol Analysis and Prediction System model and GOES-16 (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) data to try and find a connection between aerosols and lightning severity. I enjoy applying what I learn in class to real data that has a positive impact on the world.   

What are your goals for the future? What do you hope to be doing professionally in 10 years?

I hope to find a job working as a chemical engineer using my skills in programming. I am also considering pursuing a master’s degree.
